How to get to Comuna 13 by Metro

Understanding how to get to Comuna 13 starts with separating the district from its visitor corridor. San Javier is Comuna 13 in western Medellín; the graffiti and outdoor escalator visit focuses on areas including Veinte de Julio and Las Independencias. San Javier Metro station is the connection point for the onward journey, rather than the end of every visitor’s route. Keep the actual walking-tour meeting address to hand instead of using the district name alone.

From Line A, travel to San Antonio and change to Line B towards San Javier. Your journey from the accommodation depends on its precise address and connection to those lines. Once at San Javier, continue towards the visitor area by local bus or taxi. Read the outdoor escalator guide to distinguish the public transport infrastructure from the walking routes around it.

The last connection and local fares

The city tourism information describes a bus or taxi connection after San Javier. Ask for the current stop and destination locally before boarding a bus. For a taxi, use a licensed vehicle ordered by phone, online or through your accommodation, following the FCDO transport advice for Colombia. Have the meeting address ready so the driver can work with a specific destination.

The published 2026 Metro tariff for the Eventual/Al portador profile is 4,400 COP. A Cívica Eventual card costs an additional 12,100 COP. Treat the card purchase and the fare as separate budget items. The basic yellow-taxi minimum has been 8,300 COP since 2 February 2026; it is a minimum fare, rather than a quote for San Javier to the escalators. Budget for the local connection separately from the Metro journey.

Metrocable J is an optional aerial excursion from San Javier towards La Aurora. Return to San Javier to continue to the graffiti area. It does not deliver you to a station beside the outdoor escalators. The Comuna 13 cable car page explains that separate part of the visit.

Taxi and transfer from José María Córdova Airport (MDE)

José María Córdova Airport is in Rionegro. Plan an airport-to-Medellín leg first, then the journey from your city destination to the Comuna 13 visitor corridor. An optional prearranged airport-to-city transfer can take care of that arrival leg. Choose the city drop-off address when arranging it, and keep the subsequent neighbourhood visit as a separate part of the plan.

The published basic-taxi tariff of 132,000 COP, effective from 2 February 2026, applies from Medellín to MDE. For an arrival at MDE, obtain the fare for that direction. Allow room in the itinerary for the onward city connection rather than attaching an overall airport-to-escalator journey time to the transfer.

Airport bus from MDE

COMBUSES connects MDE with Medellín and names San Diego and the northern entrance of Exposiciones Metro station as city reference points. Its fare display, accessed on 2 November 2026, showed a starting price of 20,000 COP for a one-way journey. Use the relevant boarding point and direction when organising the airport leg; the bus journey is separate from the local connection at San Javier.

Olaya Herrera Airport (EOH)

Olaya Herrera, airport code EOH, is the city airport beside Terminal del Sur. Airplan’s undated access guidance lists public buses to Terminal del Sur and an authorised taxi rank outside arrivals. For a Metro connection it describes Line A to Poblado followed by a walk of about 30 minutes to the airport. That is a walking segment, not a Poblado-to-Comuna travel time. Match the airport code on your booking before choosing transport.

A guided visit with accommodation pickup

The guided alternative on this page is a Comuna 13 visit with private return transport and pickup at your accommodation. It includes a local guide, the guided neighbourhood visit and medical assistance insurance, with return to the accommodation or original departure point. Food and drinks are extra. This is transport for a sightseeing visit from your accommodation; arrange your airport arrival separately.

For other visit formats, compare the private tours and walking tours. Carry water, wear comfortable clothing and bring sun and rain protection. FCDO advice for Medellín includes keeping valuables discreet, carrying little cash and taking extra care after dark or when alone. Follow escalator staff instructions and ask residents before taking their photograph.
